Although I haven't quite fulfilled all my hopes and goals (yet), I created this site to give anyone interested a gimpse of what I am doing at present or in the recent past. For example, there is a description of my 6 - week "Exploring Jazz" class, which I have been giving during the winter at various universities and other venues since 2007 in the California Bay Area. Over the years, I have sometimes given two courses simultaneously at different sites; at other times, just one class per season. With between 100 and 200 adult students per class, I hope to have helped about 2000 people come closer to appreciating and understanding the joys of jazz. In 2017, I began giving the class for 32 people the in music room of my home in Newton, MA.
Also under "music," you will find a couple of examples of my playing with a trio; perhaps I will add more recordings soon. I also have links to some of the most enjoyable music videos on Youtube or other sites. My "writing" page points to three of the six books I have written (those omitted just don't seem relevant to me any more), a list of journalistic pieces, mostly about Jews of African descent, and some published (dare I say) literary work: An essay and a short story. I hope there will be more to link to in that category soon. If you are interested in communicating with me about any of these topics (or purchasing my most recent book, The Ethiopian Jews of Israel: Personal Stories of Life in the Promised Land, ) please email me using the Contact button below. |
